The competition brief was simple, design the best “healthiest” 100 meter square transient housing unit for a development in Haiti. The design should have specific emphasis on reducing the transmission of infections diseases such as tuberculosis via good design. What my Team and I set forth to do was step beyond simply providing a one unit solution. We began to think in terms of development, what an entire community would need to sustain a healthy living environment. This meant looking at the social and economic factors at play in Haiti. We had to address the chronic poor physical and social infrastructure that plague the country.
