LOCATION: Brooklyn, NY
This is a proposal to re-weave the Broadway Triangle with the surrounding city fabric by integrating bike paths with local schools and existing transport infrastructures to create a safe, efficient bike commuting network. A new identity for this post-industrial neighborhood can be created by capitalizing on the existing high concentration of educational facilities, and using their networks to integrate bike commuting and with biking education. The void spaces remaining from vacant industrial space can be re-programmed as a new hub that advocates bike use as a viable form of transport. This network meshes with existing MTA systems by providing direct transitions from bike to methods of mass transit. Through the strategic implementation of a series of interventions for convenience such as storage lockers and shower units, parking & repair stations placed at strategic destinations along the network, commuter biking becomes a fully serviced, viable form of transit for nyc residents.
